In 2020, 22 million tourists visited Croatia. As more countries now open after the pandemic, this number is expected to grow significantly.

If you’re planning a trip to Croatia, you need to create an itinerary. But what Croatia highlights do you need to include?

Keep reading for a top-five list of things to do in Croatia.

1. Explore Zagreb

While some people might argue that every European city looks the same, Zagreb is one European capital that stands out. There is a lot to do in this city, and you’ll fall in love with the charm, narrow cobblestones, and Gothic churches.

This quirky city also has plenty of museums and parks. The streets are designed only for pedestrians, and there are plenty of trams if you don’t want to walk.

2. Hike Plitvice Lakes National Park

Plitvice Lakes National Park is one of the best attractions in Croatia. You’ll have a beautiful hike in a forest that has over twelve hiking trails. You’ll feel like you’re in a fairy tale with all of the emerald lakes for the view.

This is also a UNESCO World Heritage site, and there are trails for each type of hiker. If you’d prefer to bike, there is even a network of bike trails on the northern edge of the park.

3. Book a Boat

While you’re in Croatia, you have to go island hopping, and the best way to do that is by booking a boat. You can take a ferry or go all out and have a yachting vacation.

You can go to Split, and then take boats to all of the different islands, like Krk, Cres, Brac, and Hvar. However, you can also be more adventurous and explore a little bit some of the lesser-known islands.

4. Hike Odysseus Cave

Odysseus Cave is rumored to be the inspiration for Homer’s The Odyssey. However, no one knows for sure.

Either way, it’s an hour-long hike that’ll take you near cliff edges and rocky terrain. This hike is best for people who have a medium-level hiking ability.

When you hike to the edge of the cliff, the only way you can reach the cave is to jump and then swim. If you’re not a strong swimmer, consider wearing a life jacket.

5. Go to a Concert at Pula Amphitheater

This Roman theater has space for thousands of people, and it dates back to the first century B.C. Today, there are modern concerts and festivals that are held here.

If you plan your trip far enough in advance, you may be lucky enough to score a ticket.
